Ingredients and allergens

Active ingredients, per capsule: iron (as ferrous bisglycinate chelate), 24 mg elemental iron; Lactiplantibacillus plantarum 299v, 10 billion CFU; vitamin C (ascorbic acid).

Capsule shell: hypromellose, which is plant-based rather than gelatine.

No gluten, dairy, nut or added-sugar ingredients. One honest note on soy: the growth medium for the culture can include soy-derived peptides depending on the production run, so check the label on your bottle. If you need the manufacturer's written statement, email us and we will send it.

How to take it

One capsule daily with water, with food. You do not need an empty stomach, and you do not need a separate vitamin C tablet — the vitamin C is already in the capsule.

Tea and coffee contain polyphenols that reduce how much non-haem iron your body takes up, so if you want to be careful, leave an hour between the capsule and a strong brew. Leave about two hours between atomera and any calcium or zinc supplement, since those compete with iron for absorption.

Speak to your doctor or pharmacist if you take prescription medicines, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Warnings

Not for the treatment of iron deficiency conditions.

Vitamin and mineral supplements should not replace a balanced diet. If symptoms persist, talk to your health professional. Keep out of reach of children. Store below 25°C, away from direct sunlight.

What's in it

Three actives, and the reason for each

01

24 mg of elemental iron

As ferrous bisglycinate chelate — iron bound to two molecules of the amino acid glycine. That sits above the 18 mg a day recommended dietary intake for women aged 19 to 50, and well below the 45 mg upper level.

02

One named culture

Lactiplantibacillus plantarum 299v at 10 billion CFU — the dose used in most of the published trials on this strain, and guaranteed to the printed expiry date rather than to the day it was packed.

03

Vitamin C, in the capsule

Ascorbic acid improves non-haem iron absorption in single-meal studies, which is why it is in the formula. It also means there is no second tablet to remember. We set out what the clinical evidence does and does not show on the evidence page.

04

Independently tested

Every batch screened by an accredited third-party lab for heavy metals, microbial load and culture count. The certificate of analysis for your batch is available on request.

The formula

Three actives. Nothing to pad it out.

Amounts are per capsule. The culture count is the figure guaranteed at the printed expiry date, not at manufacture.

What exactly is in it?

Three actives in one plant-based capsule: 24 mg of elemental iron as ferrous bisglycinate chelate, 10 billion CFU of Lactiplantibacillus plantarum 299v, and vitamin C. No proprietary blend, nothing unnamed.

Why 24 mg and not more?

Two reasons. It sits above the 18 mg a day recommended dietary intake for women aged 19 to 50 and well below the 45 mg upper level. And 24 mg is the ceiling the regulations set for a daily dose in an Australian listed medicine, so it is as much as a product like this can carry. If you need more than that, that is a conversation with your doctor.

When should I take it, and does timing matter?

One capsule daily, with food — most people take it with breakfast. You do not need an empty stomach and you do not need a separate vitamin C tablet. Two things are worth spacing out: leave about two hours either side of a calcium or zinc supplement, and if you want to be careful, leave an hour between the capsule and a strong tea or coffee, since polyphenols reduce non-haem iron uptake.

What does the research actually show?

More and less than most supplement pages will tell you. We have written it up in full — including the studies that went against us and one regulator's refusal of a claim about this probiotic strain — on our evidence page. Every paper is cited and linked.

Is it suitable for vegans?

The capsule shell is plant-based hypromellose rather than gelatine, and the probiotic strain is grown on a dairy-free, non-animal medium. If you need the manufacturer's formal statement covering the whole ingredient list, email us and we will send it.

Does it need refrigeration?

No. The culture is freeze-dried and shelf-stable. Keep the bottle below 25°C and out of direct sunlight.
